Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD International)

Established in 1991 by the Rockefeller Foundation, is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization with the basic mission of capacity building for selected future leaders whose actions will contribute to the decisions made about environment and development issues in most parts of the world.

About Lead

Lead is the world's largest non-profit organisation dedicated to building leadership capacity for sustainable development. We have a proven track record over the past 20 years, having trained more than 2,500 leaders across 90 countries. An international network of leaders united by a common purpose – to make change happen for a sustainable world.

Today Lead stands at the forefront of leadership thinking and practice. We believe that people are the key to change and that the complexities of sustainable development can only be tackled by investing in leaders, to preserve and protect the future of our planet.

Inspiring leadership for sustainability in the 21st century

A new world is emerging. Fast paced, globalised, unpredictable and increasingly challenged by large and complex social, environmental and economic issues.

The global forces shaping the next decade and beyond are profoundly transforming how we live and work. Leadership in the 21st century means overcoming unprecedented challenges, requiring different skills to navigate through complexity and influence change.

As we look towards the future, Lead believes that among the possible scenarios lies a world of new possibilities with extraordinary opportunities for innovation and reinvention. Individuals and organisations can play a critical role in building a sustainable future by changing the way we work, solve problems and create value.

For over 20 years, Lead has pioneered the development of leadership capacity across sectors, on a global scale, to address the world's most pressing problems. We've witnessed and learned how individuals are able to challenge conventional ways of creating, learning and being, to become major catalysts for change, crossing traditional organisational and industry boundaries.

Today, Lead enables aspiring and established leaders to explore, with fresh eyes, the implications of sustainability for their organisations and their leadership capacity for the future. We support individuals and organisations to realise their potential to be catalysts for change and to thrive in a future that may seem impossible by today's rules.
